My passion for creative movement and alignment started with my ballet obsession at the age of 7 and continued through high school and college. I took my first yoga in college for my phys-ed requirement in the early 90’s at Montclair State University. Soon after, I began practicing at Starseed Yoga in Montclair NJ with Jyoti Crystal. I quickly noticed that the poses, breath techniques, and meditation gave me an improved sense of well-being and became hooked on learning as much as I could about mind body awareness, the yoga philosophy and how it all comes together. In 2010, I obtained 300 hr. RYT certification at Lotus Yoga, Montclair NJ. Knowing yoga was a great modality for balancing the nervous system, I applied that training to teaching the under served population in Newark NJ public schools and then received my 100 hr. Children’s Yoga certification to incorporate mindfulness and meditation activities for children. As I noticed more people turning to yoga to alleviate symptoms from illness, injury, behavioral and stress related ailments, I was inspired to specialize and train in Restorative & Therapeutic Yoga at Yogaworks NYC in 2012. At that time, I was teaching pediatric special needs yoga at The Yoga Way in Morristown NJ and also obtained Physical Therapy CEU’s in Neurological Integrative Pediatric Yoga from Dr. Yana Kofman and weaving in sensory motor skill developmentally appropriate classes for autism spectrum disorders, ADHD, developmental delays and special needs . Recently, I added Aerial Yoga and Mindfulness Meditation certifications to my teaching skills to bring more variety and deeper understanding of mind/body connection along with the benefits of a meditation practice. Through the years of serving a range of audiences from conventional adult classes, outreach populations, pediatric special needs, women’s wellness, enrichment programming, and private therapeutic yoga sessions, I have an intuitive nurturing style. My teaching philosophy is to meet the needs of the students in the room in the moment with a well-rounded class that encompasses the whole mind-body experience.
